A taste of pop from around the world

Before & After

Plagiary, the national hobby of Uzbekistan?

tresj3 125px-Flag_of_Uzbekistan.svg Flag_of_Lebanon.svg copyThe video to the latest song by Amira Alibekova, "Faqat Seniki", is a bad copy of Nancy Ajram's epic video to "Mashy Haddy" of 2009. It hard being original  when you even need to copy the sunglasses shape! We saw it happen before when Manzura copied Gulsen's video. Is this their national hobby?

Feruza Egamova covers Ajda Pekkan’s “Arada Sirada”

tops3 125px-Flag_of_Uzbekistan.svg 125px-Flag_of_Turkey.svgAnother epic Turkish song echoing in Uzbekistan is "Arada Sirada", Ajda Pekkan's 2011 smash hit. Feruza Egamova's "Ishq fasli" gives some minor changes to the dance version of Ajda's version and translates the song to the Uzbek language. While it's an ok song, it's bleak compared to the original. One does not mess with divas...

Navro’z Sobirov – Mani sev Titra

tresj3 125px-Flag_of_Uzbekistan.svg 125px-Flag_of_Turkey.svgCovers, you're doing it wrong, Navro'z. Bengü's song "Iki Melek" came out 4 years ago and sounded newer than this...

Egine featuring T-Pain – Moon of Dreams

tops3 125px-Flag_of_the_United_States_(Pantone).svg 125px-Flag_of_Russia.svg125px-Flag_of_Armenia.svg 125px-Flag_of_Ukraine.svgWho did it better, the everlasting question when covers surface. I'm not against taking an old song and making it new, but the copy - paste level of this one is pretty painful. What was more painful was Ruslana's bad accent on the original version of this song. Even so, her version gets my preference. Even if Egine has a great voice, she does not bring a lot of personality to the table. I'm wondering if failure T-Pain even re-recored his unchanged verse. The video is great however. Great shots on the beach, just wish they left out the plastic mermaid part... Enjoy both!

Manzura – Seniki bo’lay

While Turkish popstat Gülsen was inspired by the 60's movie "Funny Face", Manzura from Uzbekistan received her inspiration from the former. It's clear how much this video, the make-up and even the clothing resemble the video of "Yeni Biri". The only thing is Manzura comes off a bit full of herself, and the lipstick is put too far out of her lips to the point where it's kind of clownesque...

Mista – Never Hide

So I've hear the 90's were back. In Romania they took it a little too seriously. Remeber "Runaway" from the Real McCoy? Well it's just become "Never Hide". Why improve something when you can't? Well it's not like the original was a gem either...

Can we add some Uzbek to that?

Remember i posted that Bulgarian song that was covered in Kazakh? Well add Uzbek to that. Of all 3 versions, this has to be to most successful in my eyes, but then again, I'm not so much into chalka.

From Bulgaria to Kazakhstan

People copy, and it seems this Romano-Bulgarian Costi song had to be copied into Kazakh. It's a small world. Note the horrific dress code of Andrea's video, isn't it hideous? The Kazakhs did the oposite of the balkanians: They went all the way to Cuba to do their video.

Darya Zhukova – Dangerously Sexy

So, Darya from Latvia likes to think guys will masturbate to this video she just made. Isn't that for a different profession? Moreover the concept is kind of a ripoff from a Ultra Naté video from 2010. She sings "I got my best dress on" but if this is the best she has to offer...

Rip-Off Alert: Mirsa Kerqeli – Clubi n’Air

In Albania budgets are low, let's face it, it's a poor country. What's even lower is the inspiration. And you don't need money for that. Mirsa had the wonderful idea to rip-off Kelly Rowland's video to "Commander". Personally that video was terrible as is, but to redo it with an even lower budget. And the song, don't get me started...

The Queen On Budget Madonna – Girl Gone Wild

It's clear Madonna made her latest video for the last people who actually care of seeing her video: Her gay fans. What she might not know is that they might be more educated than way back in the day. This video has taken a bit too much inspiration from Ukrainian boyband Kazaky's danceroutines in high heels, infact they're actually IN her video. With the difference that their videos actually do look like they were high budget, and Madge's just looks like she spent her small change on it. So much for being able to stand on her own feet. I'm not even going into the completely dowdy song, that's sung as if she had to do it quickly before going to the toilet...

DJ Chris Parker – Space

Tel me what's original about this song, and I'll consider it. To me it's just a 100% rip-off of "9PM" by ATB, and i guess after 14 years that's still hot in Russia. Ok, whatever...

I feel sorry for Kelly

Now this is bad, and when i say BAD I mean REALLY REALLY REALLY bad! This Brittish Twit "Vicky Green" or whoever the f she is, just couldn't help but rape Kelly Rowlands vocals in the allready awful, yet successful song "Here We Go Again". The song was terrible to begin with, but this Vicky Voiceless just had to shout over the delicate vocals of Kelly? Sorry this is a pure rape-crime!

Correction! Officially not dead!

The new line up Via Gra has been announced officially and we even have to photo's to prove it! (Please someone make sure it isn't photoshopped!) I was getting kind of tired of posting news that turned out to be vicious rumors, so sorry for being misleading at times. BUT let's announce the new ingredient to VIA Gra! Santa Dimopulos!! Greek-Assyrian-Ukrainian-gorgeousness. Kind of the Nicole Scherzinger of Ukraine. Fans should be able to see her on stage the 2nd of December! Let's hope for a new video soon!

Change of tune

As their latest single Belanova changed their song and dished us something different, after 7 years of electro pop that seemed to become repetitive after their second album. This melodramatic tearjerker has a video that fits. It's their 2011 version of traditional Mexican music. Even if it's not my cup of tea, I have to applaud them for mixing it up, and give us something new. The video is a great production and tell a "moving" story.

Premiere: Demet Akalın – Deliyim Ben

Yet another trashy low-budget video for Demet. She took inspiration from one of my previous posts "Lose Control" by Keri Hilson and Gulsen's Ebilemen Artik. It's funny how she sounds more and more like Gulsen. My turkish friend even that it was her when i made her listen to this song! She's beautiful as always however. This haircolor suits her very well.

Red-One repeats himself

After overduely browsing Swedish Stereo i came across Mohombi's latest single with Nayer and Pitbull (I can't say anything positive about Pitbull so I wont say a thing). As all of Mohombi's songs it's very catchy and the video is lot higher budgeted than his previous efforts, featuring Nayer in a torn up latex suit. Maybe she got attacked by a shark, who knows. HOWEVER the real reason I'm posting this is: RED ONE just used the same music for Kelly Rowland's "Down for Whatever". It's a pity such a talented producer has to resort to recycling!

Tim Berg clone

I do admit one does not have to re-invent the wheel all the time, but there's something in between inspiration and stealing. Belgium's Basto has a hand for copying the sound Tim Berg/Avicii did on his single "Bromance" and "Seek Bromance", which on its own wasn't completely original, but at least not blatently stolen. That's the difference between inspiration and being a copy-machine.

Deja Ecouté

Ex-Via Gra vixen Алена Винницкая made a really nice video. Nice camera work post production everything. Nothing wrong with this picture you'd say. Exept for the soundtrack. Why does she have to do the exact same song of so many years ago? As if we wouldn't remember? Tell me if the similarity is not just a littlebit too much. I liked the song "Konvert", but 2 of a kind is too much! (After & Before)

STOP WITH THE POKERFACE RIP-OFFS

Hello, I'm MIXKULA, and I'm sick and tired of hearing Pokerface rip-offs! PEOPLE it's mother-freaking 2011, not 2000-and fucking-8! RedOne made Gaga's song even way before it was released, so PLEASE come up with something NEW! Is it too much to ask for musical innovation after 4 years?

One remark must be made of the identical remake by the Danish girls, their "voices" are more present.

If you cover, don’t rape!

Poor Yulduz Osmanova got her song raped by Turkish 'singer' Yelda. While copistry is the highest form of flattery, one can wonder if this is how you'd like your song to be interpreted: A voiceless moaning and scantily dressed performance. Ofcourse Yulduz' video wasnt the top either, but let's face that budgets in Uzbekistan cannot be to dream about, but at least she sang well! Yelda did a great job, in ruining a great song, by a great singer with a great voice. Let's hope Yulduz gets royalties at least.

The same song, again.

Uzbek singing in Russian Sogdiana can't seem to change her tune. Her record is stuck on the same song. As much as she's likable, her songs tend to be more of the same, and after her Russian debut "Синее небо" all her songs lacked salt. She does bring her Uzbek influence to the music, but the Russian chill takes out all the soul. Part of me wished for her to stay in Tashkent, maybe it would've kept her warm...

Now,

Then,

Kåt

I'd usually post only official videos, but this is a jam gem I couldn't resist. It's a fab mash up by Micheal Casado of "One" by Swedish House Maffia and "Mikrofonkåt" by September. As this song is one of my favorite tunes of 2010 I welcome the exquisitely done remix!
